Being a hotel manager during the pandemic of 2020

It is not an easy task being a hotel manager during this awful pandemic. Tourists from other countries were practically non existant during the months of April and May, 2020, when most of the hotels were closed. There weren't even business travelers, since all the businesses were closed or working on the very minimum capacity. It was scary!

I had the chance to work right from the beginning of the pandemic, business for me was quite booming during this crisis, however it was not without a risk. I had to dare to move and travel and meet people when nobody knew what we were actually dealing with. People were scared, so was I, but the only way to continue, was to move forward!

The hotel where I did that '' pandemic mission '' was closed, but I had to find ways to attract customers once the whole thing was over, so I was spending a lot of time on excel and google, searching for new contacts, whether those were travel agencies, tour operators or companies that would need the services of a hotel.

We had high hopes regarding the group travels, but we've understood after some time, that the status quo was here to stay for awhile and that we had to find other ways to fill the hotel up. We had to re-invent our offer, the way we attracted clients and the way we were going to search for new clients. It was a nightmare.

This web site of mine was created because I wanted to share my experience and my views on how a hotel manager should run his business in this '' post apocalyptic '' time. I have learned my fair share of lessons when it comes to managing crisis, especially when you have your own government changing rules every week, because they were lost as much as the general population was.

I will try to share here the techniques I've used to keep a float the business I was put in charge of, even for a few months. Some of you will certainly not agree with me and my views, and that is completely okay. I would actually love to hear from you via comments or       e-mails, about your thoughts on the different topics that I'll be writing on, so please don't be shy.

In my next post, I'll be tackling the topic on what to do when the market is completely contracted and you have to fight for every client?
